POINTS 10 7 3 0 Overall Quality of Post - 25% Original post is of a high quality, using evidence from the readings, class and other sources to establish a dialogue with classmates.  Original post is of good quality, using some evidence from readings, class, and other sources. Responds with minimum effort. Posts show a very basic level of understanding. No posting. Critical Analysis - 25% Post expresses thoughtful analysis of the topic and the student clearly understands the materials covered by the discussion.  Post expresses a general understanding of the material, but the student cannot apply the ideas to other relevant concepts. Post reiterates the materials give in class and readings, but does not illustrate that the student has a good grasp of the ideas or can use them in an applied manner.  No posting. Relevance of Post- 25% Posts topics related to discussion topic; prompts further discussion of topic. Posts topics that are related to discussion content.  Posts topics which do not relate to the discussion content; makes short or irrelevant remarks. No posting. Contribution to the Overall Discussion- 25% Actively engages with the community, seeking to enhance the class and motivate others by thought provoking and creative perspectives. Digital Assistants' New directions for grading online discussion forums in your assigned course- updated Fall 2014

1. Reply to the students' posts inside the discussion topic forum during the week that the particular discussion is open. The students cannot see the discussion board after the due date. So, your replies need to be posted before the week is up. Most students wait until the last minute on Sunday night to post, if that is the trend in your course, then save the majority of your comments for private feedback AFTER the discussion board assignment closes. 

2. Once the discussion week closes, use the GRADE DISCUSSION FORUM button as shown in the screenshots below, to leave LEARNER FEEDBACK and assign a general score.

Please assign ONE numeric score to the student's overall participationdiscussion posts based on the criteria specified in your course's syllabus

Please only assign a numeric score AFTER discussion board assignment has closed, in order to ensure that students are being graded on the total number of posts the had planned to complete.

With this revision in instructions, DAs will now be responsible for assigning numeric scores to discussion board assignments.
